From this February 23, 2010 Daily Bell interview with Lew Rockwell, he said:

Daily Bell: Is it reasonable to believe that the state will ever wither away or does reality instruct us that the best that can be done is to limit its power?

Rockwell: To me, that’s like asking if we can imagine a society without robberies and murders. Maybe it won’t ever happen, but we must have the ideal in mind or else we’ll never get closer to it. Without the ideal, progress stops. To some extent, then, whether reality will finally ever conform is not the critical question. What counts is that what we imagine can and should exist. I like to imagine a society without legally sanctioned aggression against person and property.

Alex Jones posted a video on February 7, 2014, entitled “Alex Jones: A Real Banking Solution”

In it, he endorses state banking (at 4:00).

However, he muddles his message, as he first starts talking about the completely unrelated matter of Bill Clinton and Elizabeth Hurley, then says he’s against the U.S. Postal Service getting into predatory banking, then says he’d support a federal bank to issue low-interest loans but says it couldn’t be trusted, then endorses state banking, then warns against Bitcoin.

He may not have intended it this way, but it certainly does come off as a muddled message, leaving some people shaking their heads as to what real monetary reform looks like. For more on that, see my articles and those of Anthony Migchels, and for a clear presentation of state banking, see Ellen Brown and the Public Banking Institute.

Lew RockwellFrom this January 25, 2014 New York Times hit piece against Rand Paul and Mises Institute associates, Lew Rockwell told a New York Times reporter who requested a tour of the Mises Institute campus that he’s “part of the regime“, yet Lew Rockwell himself is the Chairman of a government-sanctioned and government-regulated institution, the 501(c)(3) tax-exempt Ludwig von Mises Institute.

Despite the claim that tax money is better off in the hands of its donors, and the analogy given by Rockwell and other anarcho-capitalists that it is valid and even a moral duty for an individual to seek to pay as little taxes as possible, it doesn’t hold in the case of the Mises Institute, since it was created by Lew Rockwell and others voluntarily entering into an agreement with government, whereas individuals are being taxed on the basis of their very natural existence.

For a close examination of Lew Rockwell’s anti-state credentials, see my articles:

Lew RockwellAs further evidence of the “say one thing, do another” mentality of some Austrian adherents, like Lew Rockwell, in claiming to be anti-state, yet voluntarily entering into an agreement with government, here we have Lew Rockwell’s self-described “anti-state” site regularly posting state media articles by Russia Today.

Amazingly, as of January 3, 2014, LRC has published 63 articles by the state broadcaster and publisher, Russia Today! — and with their permission. (Why bother seeking permission of an entity you regard to be illegitimate?)

Here was the latest one, on January 3, 2014: “US the Biggest Threat to World Peace in 2013

If the U.S. is the biggest threat to world peace in 2013, I ask again: why did he and other founders of the Mises Institute enter into a voluntary agreement with it?

Byron DaleMonetary historian and reformer Byron Dale is scheduled to be my guest for the full two hours of Exposing Faux Capitalism, on December 22, 2013, from 8 to 10 PM EST.

I’m looking forward to speaking with him about his monetary reform efforts in Minnesota, to issue debt-free money in pursuit of legitimate public works projects at the state level, instead of state residents having to rely on bribes of their own money from the federal government.
