I used intelius.com to search for the latest information about someone I had lost contact with.

I was solicited to sign up for some “free” plan, three separate times, with a tricky new twist each time. The plan offered access to some forgettable service, for a certain time, at which point, if you don’t cancel, they start billing your credit card monthly.

It ended up costing me $4.99 USD — 5 times more than the teaser rate of $0.99, where I knew I would be stuck in voicemail hell, and arguing with the customer service person specially trained to sell me even more, rather than let me cancel.

When the report was finally generated, it contained three problems:

  2. Partial zip/postal code information.
  3. An address with a zip/postal code for the wrong city.
